Once I stopped breaking the rules, the rules started breaking me.

A little less wise

So it’s been 2 days since my wisdom tooth was mercilessly cut out from my unsuspecting gums. The day of the surgery I ended up taking 2 Vicodins by the time I went to bed. When I awoke yesterday I was amazed at how little pain I felt. I thought the previous day’s Vicodin treatment would end up being a one time occurrence.

Then halfway through the day I took a nap. When I awoke my head was throbbing. I wasn’t sure if it was related to the tooth or not, but it was a killer headache. I popped a Vicodin and an Ibuprofen. An hour later I chased them with 2 Excederins. Like I said, it was killer.

This morning I once again awoke to very little pain. As the day wore on the pain grew from tiny to small. I figure I’ve got the Vicodin, so why not take them? So I took one, but truly if I didn’t have a couple of Advils would suffice. All-in-all, the horror stories some people shared with me didn’t at all reflect my experience. It hurts a little, and it’s very sensitive when I touch that part of my jaw, but nothing that’ll be worth telling my grandkids about.

It’s still early and there are possibilities of complications as it heals. Barring any such complications wisdom tooth extraction only gets a “meh” on the scale of life experiences. Though I am not complaining one bit. :D

Now I’m off to go buy some jawbreakers…

That’s enough of this nonsense

I’m popping a Vicodin, if that doesn’t help I’m popping a 2nd. After that I get out the crack…

Novocain, fading, away

“I told my dentist my teeth are going yellow. he told me to wear a brown tie.”

-Rodney Dangerfield

I had a wisdom tooth pulled today. It’s my first one (and hopefully my last). Everyone told me horror stories about getting your tooth pulled. Some looked as me like I was lunatic when I told them I opted not to get knocked out, instead choosing general anesthetic.

The extraction itself was ridiculously quick. My wisdom tooth had a hooked root which was a possible problem. It ended up being a problem indeed, however that just meant that instead of a 10-minute extraction it turned into a 20-minute extraction. In about the same amount of time it took the Novocain to take effect my tooth was removed.

That was about 3½ hours ago. Over the course of the last hour or so the Novocain has been fading away. The pain in my now-empty socket is starting to get noticeable. I got my prescription of Vicodin filled yesterday and they’re sitting on the counter. I’ve never taken Vicodin before but judging by the stories of others it may be an enjoyable experience. Even so, I’m not going to take any medication I don’t need to.

So the intention was to only take a Vicodin if I need it. The pain isn’t a great pain, but it’s starting to look like I’ll be popping one of those happy little pills within the hour. I’m told they can make you quite loopy… so here’s hoping. ;)
