Once I stopped breaking the rules, the rules started breaking me.

Contemplating miles while needing a foot

As you should be aware of by now, I’ll soon be unemployed & homeless. What I’ll do after that has been a topic on my mind pretty regularly lately. I’ve thought about going to Europe. I’ve flirted with other countries as well (yes I know Europe is not a country). I’ve thought about going on a hiking/camping trip; or possibly moving all out into the woods a la Thoreau. I’ve been thinking about a lot of nonsensical things to do. As I play with the pros & cons of my various options one worry seems to pop into my head over & over: the foot.

Back in late 2006 I hurt my foot. After eventually going to a foot doctor I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis (PF). Those of you who don’t know what PF is (and don’t want to click the link) I’ll give you a brief non-medical description. Plantar fasciitis is a stress injury on the bottom of your foot. This means the more you use your foot the more it hurts. If you’re dumb like me and try to “power through” the pain then it results in much more pain, limping, crying, and later on whining. It’s a lame, lame, lame injury. Honestly. “My foot hurts,” is as much credit as it deserves.

I’ve tried most everything possible at this point from steroids, to stretching, to sleeping with an ugly, uncomfortable foot brace. My last resort has been going to a podiatrist to get shoe inserts that have been specifically molded to my feet. As of tonight it’s still too early to tell if they’ll be effective.

The point & purpose of this post is simply to provide a little background & insight. I’ve recently started sifting through the possibilities in an attempt to start deciding which ones will likely not happen. It’s looking like my PF will play at least some roll in the decision.

Maybe.
